COVID 19 PANDEMIC IN MALAYSIA AND POLITICAL CONNUNDRUM
This is the situation in respect of the coronavirus pandemic in Malaysia on 18th November 2020. The total active cases are 50,390 - 37,254 = 13,136. This is only 0.04% of the total population of 32.7 million in Malaysia today. It is a very miniscule percentage compared to the population. So why is the government eager to impose an almost complete lock down in most states of Malaysia?
There are other more important cases involving influenza, cancer, denggi etc that also needs urgent attention. But all resources are being diverted to only one target - coronavirus.
I will come back to the above in a while.
From the map, it is evident that the cases are most spread aroung the KL area, eg Selangor, KL and Putrajaya. So isn't it prudent that a Red Zone be declared in these areas? Why need to cover most states in Malaysia?
The reason I suspect is political ....ie political survival of this backdoor government.
The Budget 2021 is being presented in Parliament with a vote to be called on November 27. YDP has refused the Declaration of Emergency requested by the backdoor PM. So this PM is afraid of losing the vote and will be forced to call for an election, which he is sure that he will lose.
So what is the next best thing?
Declare partial lockdown in most states. Restrict travel between districts or states. Enforce SOP in Parliament, etc. In Parliament they have installed plastic shields and enforced SOP like facemask, social distancing etc. Oh no, these are not very effective. We have to reduce the number of people in Parliament. So what did the backdoor government do? With the advise of 70 ministers and deputy ministers in the cabinet, they came out with a brilliant idea. Restrict the number of MPs in Parliament to 80, 41 from the government benches and 39 from the opposition. You get the idea now? Good heavens, do you think the Budget can be overthrown? Will the government be thrown out?
Never. And that my friends is the brilliant idea that the backdoor PM and his 70 strong cabinet has hatched.
Now we have to wait and see how the Opposition is going to respond when the time comes to vote for the Budget 2021.
Good luck.
